I am a lawyer by profession and this led to my election into the Multan Bar Council as the Senior Vice President. You can say I am living the dream as I get to practice my profession while at the same time working on my passion to write. Mazhar gained popularity from the Imran Series novels. This placed me on the map and since then, it has been difficult to stay away from the radar.
About my origin, I was born in the year 1942, 22nd July in Multan. Most of my livelihood was in this region raised by my father who was a retired police inspector. Though raised in Multan, my father has migrated to this place from Afghanistan. Personally, Pakistan is home to all my activities despite the on and off traveling from one part of the world to another.
I went to Islamia High School Multan for my high school education and progressed to Emerson College, which is now a Government College, from where I graduated. While in college, I took part in sports taking a key role in the basketball team as well as in bodybuilding. From college, I managed to land a job as a master in Daulat Gate which is a government high school. Soon after that I left the job so as to further my education. I did not travel far as many would have at as joined the University of Multan which is currently known as the Bahauddin Zakariya University.
At the university, I took an M.A IN Urdu literature and a course in law. Literature is more of a hobby while law is a profession. In my profession, I am a senior lawyer in the Lahore High Court, Multan.
While many refer to me as Mazhar Kaleem, Kaleem is not originally my name. I adopted it with my advancement in literature. It is a name from my novelist recognition. My names of origin are Mazhar Nawaz Khan and this you will hear a lot from my line of profession.
My family is large and in total we are eight. This includes my two sons and four daughters. However, we lost my first son, Faisal Jan at a tender age of thirty one. Fahad Usman who is mu second son works with a bank. None took after my footsteps.
As a novelist, I have a collection of more than 400 novels. I did not leave my hometown all through my life and I have published all my books right from my home country. People have also identified me as having introduced spy novel writing into the industry focusing on detective stories. This style of writing has gained popularity amongst the adult target market in Pakistan.
I can say that writing about Ibn-e-Safi in the Imran Series is the reason I am recognized today. With a little of innovation and creativity, I got to release many books in this series with the addition of new characters and topics. More on literature, children’s short stories have contributed largely towards identification in the literature market.
Some of the well-recognized pieces of work on stories for children include;
- Aangloo Baangloo series
- Chaloosak Maloosak series
- Chan Changloo
- Faisal Shahzad
Mazhar Kaleem is still going strong and despite time, we should all be looking out for the very best.
